Elbert County Schools Locked Down After Threatening Phone Call

ELBERT COUNTY, Ga. – Schools in the Elbert County School District were placed on lockdown late last week after a threatening phone call was received at Elbert County High School.

According to school officials, the call was received at approximately 3:27 p.m. Law enforcement was immediately notified, and out of an abundance of caution, all schools in the district were placed on lockdown while authorities assessed the credibility of the threat and ensured the safety of students and staff.

Officials said that, in coordination with law enforcement agencies, it was determined that other school districts also received similar anonymous threatening calls from the same phone number that day. After investigating, authorities found no credible threat.

The lockdown remained in place while officers checked school facilities and gathered information. School officials said they will continue working with law enforcement to evaluate any additional details that may emerge.

District leaders thanked law enforcement and emergency responders for their prompt response and commended school staff for quickly implementing established lockdown procedures to protect students and employees.
